Joana Astolfi is one of our favorite artists and architects, not only for her projects, but also for being the epitome of the made in Lisbon creativity, adapting a locally inspired language to a global audience. In addition to the shop windows for Hermès and projects for the José Avillez Group, among others, Astolfi started in 2018 a collaboration with the Portuguese brand De La Espada, with whom she developed the performance ‘Let's Pretend This Never Hapenned’, presented at Stockholm Design Week last year. At the end of June, the continuation of this collaboration travels to Lisbon for De La Espada Residence, in a week dedicated to art and design.
In the story that the online magazine Freund Von Freunden published in 2018, we can see the Lisbon of Joana Astolfi, from her apartment, studio and favorite places. Here Joana says that sustainability (a concept that is very dear to us) has always been at the center of her creations, re-using objects apparently of no interest for the development of pieces that tell the story of each place where she intervenes, in a mixture of humor, poetry and beauty.
“There’s no better time to live here than now. It’s on fire. But even though I’ve lived here for 13 years, I still feel like a tourist!”
