In this building from the middle 20th century, a profound rehabilitation was made in the first floor apartment. The main objective was to endow it with the comfort demands of the contemporary context.
In that sense, changes were made to the original blueprint. Water and electricity networks were replaced and new windows were assembled (double glazed windows with thermal break).
Nevertheless, the apartment’s essential characteristics were not changed. The beautiful high ceilings and the original doors, shutters and wooden floor were maintained.
It’s a very sunny room as it has a catwalk balcony and big windows. From this balcony the eyes can reach the river and Cristo-Rei.
The apartment has three bedrooms, one right next to the living-room and two directly linked to the corridor. These rooms are practically unchanged, the intervention focused only in replacing the windows and improvements in the electric equipment and artificial lighting.
The kitchen was relocated in the architectural blueprint in order to take advantage of the balcony and be possible to set up a laundry area. The kitchen is fully equipped (fridge, oven, induction cooktop and kitchen extractor hood), it has plenty of storage, marble countertops and has space for a dining table.
With west orientation, the balcony is a sunny and pleasant area that naturally becomes an extension of the kitchen for meals or socializing.
The Laundry Room
This area area has plenty of storage and it is possible to place the washing and drying machines inside a large storage cupboard. In this cupboard is placed the electric water heater.
From the intervention it was possible to build a new toilet. In this way, the apartment features two bathrooms with shower, washbasin cabinets, wall cabinets with integrated lighting and heated towel rails.
With direct connection to one of the bathrooms, the closet has a wardrobe and storage for larger objects.
Rua Joaquim Casimiro is located in the Lapa neighborhood, very close to Avenida Infante Santo, which is reached by a stairway. This stairway leads to public transports, private indoor parking and local shops.
The proximity to Rua das Janelas Verdes is also evident, being possible to reach the belvedere of the Museu de Arte Antiga and the river in a few minutes. This street also has plenty of shopping and transport.
The Tapada das Necessidades, with its huge garden and belvedere is located in the vicinity, as well as Jardim da Estrela. Rua Joaquim Casimiro is a very quiet street, easy to park, where there’s a grocery store supplying the basic products.
